Login Troubles
A few members have reported this trouble. There are several possible reasons all of which have to do with "cookies". Cookies are very small text files downloaded by your webrowser that store info on your hard drive about the sites you visit. They are usually harmless but not always. If you do a lot of web surfing you probably have over a hundred. When you login at ME-Alumni.com a cookie file is placed on your computer that identifies you when you access a page on the site. If the browser cookie files is not available then the webpage thinks you are not logged in. Circumstances that could effect cookies:
- You are behind a firewall. If you are at work your company's firewall may strip or block cookies
- If you have a personal firewall (Norton Personal Firewall, ZoneAlarm) it may be set to block cookies.
- Your webbrowser may be set to not accept cookies. In Internet Explorer check Tools-Internet Options-Advanced. Also check to see if you are storing temporary internet files longer than one day. Netscape's and Opera's are under File-Preferences.
- When you logon and go back to the mainpage or another page it may be taking the page out of the browser cache rather than reloading the page. Webbrowsers store copies of webpages temporarliy to speed download. In this case the cookie is not recognized because it is an "old" page. Either reload the page ( push the reload button or F5) or login and close the browser, then reopen to see if it recognizes you. You can tell if you are logged in if your name appears just under the ME-Alumni Connection title.
- The cookie is not being set properly due to the way this domain is configured. Read more about this below
- Go to this page http://www.serko.net/me-alumni/kill-cookie.php Once this page loads it will give you a message that cookies have been deleted. This is a good thing.
- Now access the mealumni website with this URL http://www.serko.net/me-alumni/index.php
Bookmark that page and always access the site with this address NOT www.me-alumni.com (you can use the me-alumni URL if you don't want to post anything to just look around, but you probably won't be logged-in) - Now go ahead and login. You should now be logged in for good ( or until you delete the cookie).
